Arts and Crafts

Many of the Foundation's activities in which volunteers participate include different
aspects of arts and crafts.  During summer camps children and youth participate in
a variety of workshops including candlemaking, beading, macrame, sewing,
drawing, painting, making puppets and the like.  During the rest of the year some
activities are repeated while new ones are offered depending on the volunteers
involved.

In addition, regular volunteers have offered a variety of workshops:  the Ukranian
artist
Vladimir offers a drawing and painting class on Tueday afternoons for
children 6-15; Ana, a skilled crafts person from the Dominican Republic offers an
arts workshop for children 1-3 on Wednesday evenings; Elena, a Russian
volunteers teaches macramé on wednesday afternoons to youth; Isabelle, a
French volunteer teaches a different craft once in a while; Annette has taught
puppet making and coloring; and Alma, from Mexico, will teach Mexican crafts.

Two French volunteers from the community have taught
flute and a couple of
retirees from the United States are planning to move to Las Terrenas during
Summer of 2008 to help us start a choir and instrument classes for children.  A
choir and band are dreams we've had for some time.

In collaboration with Teatro Alternativo of Lorena Oliva, an Argentinian teacher and
performer, we plan to start a series of theater workshop and theater presentations
during 2008, part of a pilot project that would lead us to a rich calendar of artistic
activities in Las Terrenas for people of all ages.

If you're interested in the arts, have a musical or artistic talent, come to Las
Terrenas and help us enrich the personal lives of hundreds of people.
