Many of the following projects depend on the availability of funds and volunteers.
Biblioteca Comunitaria Anacaona:  consistently opened 5 days a week; 3,500
catalogued books with 1000 more waiting processing; 6 used computers; 200 users
weekly, a 300% increase since it started, mostly elementary and high school
students; offerings of academic support, literacy, arts and crafts, storytelling and
just plain reading!  This is the ONLY free library in town.
Summer Camps  and Reading Olympics (2006 and 2007):  100-150 kids daily during
six weeks of activities; daily and concurrent workshops include literacy, music,
sports, self-esteem, general education, general culture, environment, artistic
development, personal hygiene, geography, candle-making, sewing, and general
crafts making; the largest event of its kind in Las Terrenas.
Chrysalis, Butterflies and Proyecto Alegria:  for girls and boys.  
Literacy:  jump-started a major literacy program and starting with 2008 we'll
implement "Yo, Sí Puedo", an accelerated literacy program for adults.
Technical and Professional Workshops:  a collaborative effort with the National
Institute of Technical and Professional Education (INFOTEP); 100 youth and adults
graduated in 2006-2007.
Health Projects:  a collaborative effort with ACES North America as well as
independent projects.
Community Research:  diagnostics, surveys and focus areas.
Sports:  depending on volunteer availability and we definitely want to do more.
Arts and Music:  flute classes benefiting 20 children; 50 children in drawing classes.
The Environment:  the beginning of an initiative focusing on the environment; 50
signataires and a lot of good will created.
Volunteer program:  about 100 people involved in the last 2 years, including about 40
of them from the U.S. and elsewhere, a first in Las Terrenas.
Service trips:  short-term events during college breaks.  Great opportunities.
